The Northeast Victorian Studies Association (NVSA) is a northeast-based society which hosts an annual conference on Victorian Studies each October.
The Victorians Institute is an organization of scholars and students centered in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the USA. It sponsors an annual conference and publishes the Victorians Institute Journal, an award-winning, refereed scholarly annual that publishes articles, reviews, and newly edited texts of interest to Victorianists.
The Victorian Interdisciplinary Studies Association of the Western United States (VISAWUS) is a scholarly organization dedicated to the study of British Victorian literature, history, music, art, and other topics.
National and International Organizations
The Australasian Victorian Studies Association (AVSA) aims to promote the activities and research of scholars in Victorian literary, historical, and cultural studies, including art history, architecture, politics, popular and print culture, and, increasingly, considerations of ‘the Victorian’ beyond the chronological period, and beyond the geographical centre of British Victorian Studies.
The British Association for Victorian Studies (BAVS) is a multi-disciplinary organization dedicated to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge about the Victorian period. Its members — drawn from the academic community and the general public, in both the UK and abroad — have a wide range of interests in the nineteenth century, including art history, cultural studies, history, literary studies, performance studies, and the history of science.
The Dickens Project consists of scholars concerned with the simultaneously historic and modern issues that Charles Dickens and the Victorian Period evoke. In this vein, the Project creates opportunities for collaborative research on Dickens and the Victorian age; disseminates research findings through annual conferences, institutes, and publications; and supports the professional development of graduate students and produces curricular material for teaching Victorian literature at both secondary and post-secondary levels.
The Eighteenth- and Nineteenth-Century British Women Writers Association (BWWA) provides a forum to discuss women’s writing — writing which has been historically overlooked, ignored, or excluded from the canon.
Historians of British Art (HBA) aims to foster communication and to promote the study and sharing of ideas among those engaged in any type of scholarship or other professional endeavor related to British art and architecture of every area and/or period.
Interdisciplinary Nineteenth-Century Studies (INCS) is an international group of scholars dedicated to interdisciplinary discussion and research. The organization sponsors annual meetings and enjoys a collaborative relationship with Nineteenth-Century Contexts: An Interdisciplinary Journal. INCS encourages scholarly work that transcends disciplinary boundaries in its approach to cultural studies.
NINES (Networked Infrastructure for Nineteenth-Century Electronic Scholarship) is a scholarly organization devoted to forging links between the material archive of the nineteenth century and the digital research environment of the twenty-first.
The Nineteenth Century Studies Association (NCSA) is an interdisciplinary association for the study of nineteenth-century world cultures. The membership includes scholars whose disciplinary focus ranges from art, architecture, and literature to religious, scientific, and legal writing, to social, political, and economic debate.
The North American British Music Studies Association (NABMSA) aims to promote the study of British Music from all time periods on the North American Continent; to provide a collegial and supportive forum for discussion through electronic and other means; to provide a clearinghouse of information on the study of such music; and to foster regular meetings to discuss the same.
The North American Victorian Studies Association (NAVSA) provides a continental forum for the discussion of the Victorian period, encourages a wide variety of theoretical and disciplinary approaches to the field, and furthers the interests of scholars of the period within such larger bodies as the Modern Language Association (MLA).
The Research Society for Victorian Periodicals (RSVP) is an interdisciplinary and international association of scholars dedicated to the exploration of the richly diverse world of the nineteenth-century press, both its magazines and its newspapers. RSVP’s journal, the Victorian Periodicals Review, carries articles, reviews, and research guides on a wide-ranging variety of topics.
The Society for the Study of Nineteenth-Century Ireland (SSNCI) promotes interdisciplinary research into nineteenth-century Ireland. It welcomes members from a wide range of disciplines: literature, history, economics, geography, sociology, anthropology, theology, women’s studies, and fine arts.
The Victorian Society In America (VSA) is the only national non-profit organization committed to historic preservation, protection, understanding, education, and enjoyment of nineteenth-century heritage in the United States.
The Victorian Studies Association of Western Canada (VSAWC) promotes nineteenth-century interdisciplinary studies by hosting an annual conference at which Victorianists gather from Canada and beyond to listen to keynote speakers of international reputation, and to share their own scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues.
The William Morris Society – U.S. publicizes the art, writings, and ideas of William Morris, the Pre-Raphaelites, and the Arts and Crafts Movement.

19: Interdisciplinary Studies in the Long Nineteenth Century is an open-access, scholarly, refereed web journal dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary study in the long nineteenth century.
BRANCH: Britain, Representation, and Nineteenth-Century History is an extension of Romanticism and Victorianism on the Net (RaVoN) that provides users with a free, expansive, searchable, reliable, peer-reviewed, copy-edited, easy-to-use overview of the period 1775-1925.
Journal of Victorian Culture Online is the online supplement to the Journal of Victorian Culture (JVC), which promotes the best work on all aspects of nineteenth-century society, culture, and the material world including: literature, art, performance, politics, science, medicine, technology, lived experience, and ideas. Concerned with the long nineteenth century, its legacies, and echoes in the present day, the journal encourages articles which interrogate periodization, historiography, and critical traditions.
Nineteenth-Century Gender Studies is a peer-reviewed, online journal committed to publishing insightful and innovative scholarship on gender studies and nineteenth-century British literature, art, and culture.
Romanticism and Victorianism on the Net (RaVoN) is an International Refereed Electronic Journal devoted to British Nineteenth-Century Literature. The journal, which began publication as Romanticism on the Net in February 1996, is published four times a year. It expanded its scope in August 2007 to include Victorian literature.
Victorian Poetry furthers the aesthetic study of the poetry of the Victorian Period in Britain by publishing articles from a broad range of theoretical and critical angles, including but not confined to new historicism, feminism, and social and cultural issues. The journal has expanded its purview from the major figures of Victorian England (Tennyson, Browning, the Rossettis, etc.) to a wider compass of poets of all classes and gender identifications in nineteenth-century Britain and the Commonwealth.
Victorian Studies is devoted to the study of British culture of the Victorian age. It regularly includes interdisciplinary articles on comparative literature, social and political history, and the histories of education, philosophy, fine arts, economics, law, and science, as well as review essays, and an extensive book review section. Victorian Studies is the official publication of the North American Victorian Studies Association (NAVSA).

Nineteenth-Century Serials Edition (NCSE) is a free, online scholarly edition of six nineteenth-century periodicals and newspapers. It is a collaboration between Birkbeck, University of London, King’s College London (Centre for Computing in the Humanities and the Department of English), the British Library, and Olive Software. The edition is intended to be of use for anybody with an interest in nineteenth-century literature, history or culture, as well as those interested in the history of the press, or print culture more broadly.
The Periodical Poetry Index is a research database of citations to English-language poems published in nineteenth-century periodicals, including texts by nineteenth-century British and American poets, poets from earlier periods, and poems in English translation. The Index is a resource for scholars and students of nineteenth-century periodicals and poetry.
The Victoria Research Web is dedicated to the scholarly study of nineteenth-century Britain, and to aiding researchers, teachers, and students in their investigations of any and all aspects of the period.
The Victorian Web is the WWW translation of Brown University’s Context 61, which serves as a resource for courses in Victorian literature.
The Victorian Women Writers Project (VWWP) is primarily concerned with the exposure of lesser-known British women writers of the nineteenth century. The collection represents an array of genres — poetry, novels, children’s books, political pamphlets, religious tracts, histories, and more. VWWP contains scores of authors, both prolific and rare.
